約翰·赫斯特
澳大利亚历史学家
約翰·布拉德利·赫斯特（英語：John Bradley Hirst；1942年7月9日—2016年2月3日）[1][2]澳大利亞歷史學家和社會評論員。從1968年到2006年退休為止，他在拉籌伯大學任教，並在澳大利亞電影協會和澳大利亞國家博物館任職。他被稱為「歷史學家、公共知識分子和積極的公民」。[3]

赫斯特出生於阿德萊德，曾就讀於安萊高中，並在阿德萊德大學進行本科和研究生學習。1968年，他放棄了之前成為衛理公會牧師的願望，被任命為墨爾本拉籌伯大學的講師。他的妻子和同學克里斯汀陪他去了墨爾本。他們有兩個孩子，嘉芙蓮和大衛。[4] 赫斯特後來成為拉籌伯大學歷史系的系主任和讀者。他於2006年退休，是拉籌伯大學的榮譽退休學者，直到去世。[5][6]1977年到1980年，赫斯特被借調到墨爾本大學編輯澳大利亞領先的歷史雜誌《歷史研究》。[7] 退休後，他定期去悉尼指導研究生撰寫論文，但沒有報酬。[8] 赫斯特於2016年2月3日去世，享年73歲。[2]
