海军特级上将 (美国)
海军特级上将（英语：Admiral of the Navy）是美军于1944年设立五星上将之前，美国海军中最高的军衔。乔治·杜威是唯一被任命为海军特级上将的美国海军军官。[1]

海军特级上将此军衔只授予过一次，授予乔治·杜威，以表彰他于1898年美西战争中在马尼拉湾海战的胜利。[2]1899年3月2日，美国国会批准设立海军特级上将此军衔。[3]3月3日，美国总统威廉·麦金莱向参议院递交了他授予乔治·杜威海军特级上将的提名，该提名于同一天获得参议院之批准。[4]
法案文本 编辑
由美利坚合众国参议院和众议院在国会通过，特此授权总统通过选拔和晋升任命海军特级上将，该海军特级上将不得列入退役名单除非他自己申请；当该职位因死亡或其他原因而空缺时，该职位将不复存在。[6]
