細藍線

細藍線（英語：thin blue line）是對於警察一種讚美性的符號，將警察形容為正常社會和暴亂狀態的一道壁壘。細藍線中的「藍」指的是警察常見的制服顏色。^[1]

這個詞是仿照克里米亞戰爭中形容英國步兵的細紅線（英語：The Thin Red Line (Battle of Balaclava)）造出。1854年，着紅色制服的蘇格蘭士兵成功擊退了俄國騎兵（英語：Russian cavalry）的騎兵衝鋒，因此聞名一時。「細藍線」一詞進入主流，有三大推手：1950年代的洛杉磯警察局局長威廉·H·帕克（英語：William H. Parker (police officer)）、1970年代的警官兼作家約瑟夫·萬博（英語：Joseph Wambaugh）、^[2]以及1988年埃洛·莫里斯拍攝的同名紀錄片《細藍線（英語：The Thin Blue Line (1988 film)）》。^[3]

批評細藍線的人認為，這一符號表示了一種對立的態度，是將警察和社會割裂開來，對警民關係有害無利。^[4]^[5]
