马尔他饮食显示马尔他历史的变化，受到西西里饮食和英国饮食的很强影响，并且也受到西班牙饮食、法国饮食、马格里布饮食、普罗旺斯饮食等其他地中海饮食的影响。马尔他位于贸易路线上，是一个重要的贸易据点，使得马尔他饮食的原料大多来自进口[1]。传统的马尔他红烧兔肉被视为马尔他的国菜[2]。马尔他也可能是欧洲最早食用巧克力的国家[3]。
