This painting depicts the Daoist immortal Han Xiangzi (韓湘子) miraculously treading the surface of a turbulent sea and playing a tune with a bamboo flute. The immortal wears a rustic cape of sawtoothed leaves and curly vegetal tendrils, pants with a skirt of reeds, a satchel lined with animal fur over his shoulder, and a belt holding two dried gourds.
